CAF Invites Member Associations to Submit Bids to Host AFCON 2028, 2032 and 2036

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) officially announced on Friday, July 3, 2026, the opening of the bidding process for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2028, 2032 and 2036, inviting all 54 of its member associations to submit their candidature applications. The move is part of a long-term strategic vision to plan the continent's flagship football competition well in advance.

A Transparent Selection Framework Developed with PwC

CAF developed the AFCON 2028, 2032 and 2036 Bidding Framework with the support of independent adviser PwC, as well as technical, financial and external legal experts. The framework is designed to ensure a transparent, credible and ethical selection process, in line with international best practices for awarding major sporting events.

AFCON: A Global Sporting Event

The Africa Cup of Nations is the largest sporting event on the African continent, attracting more than 3.2 billion television viewers and generating over 6 billion digital views globally across all platforms. These figures underscore the tournament's exceptional reach and the significant stakes involved in its hosting rights.

AFCON 2027 in East Africa

Before looking ahead, Africa eagerly awaits the 2027 edition — TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations PAMOJA — which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from June 19 to July 17, 2027, in a historic first for East African football.

Annual Competitions for African National Teams

CAF also confirmed its commitment to organising an annual senior men's national team competition every year, with the exception of FIFA World Cup years, ensuring a consistent and visible presence of African football on the global stage.

An Open Call to All 54 Member Associations

The invitation is directed at all 54 CAF member associations, representing every nation on the African continent. It represents a significant opportunity for countries aspiring to host the AFCON to begin preparing their candidature files in accordance with the technical, organisational and legal criteria that CAF will set out in the coming stages of the process.
