MLS Opens Investigation Into Casemiro's Transfer to Inter Miami
Major League Soccer (MLS) has opened an official investigation into Brazilian midfielder Casemiro's transfer to Inter Miami, following a complaint filed by the LA Galaxy accusing Inter Miami of contacting the player before acquiring his "discovery rights," which were held by the Galaxy. Under MLS regulations, each club may place up to five players on its discovery list, giving it priority to negotiate with them ahead of any other club. Although Inter Miami and the LA Galaxy reached a financial settlement over the discovery rights that allowed the transfer to be completed, the league decided to continue reviewing the negotiations that preceded the player's signing. Casemiro, a five-time Champions League winner, left Manchester United after his contract expired this summer before joining Inter Miami as a free agent. The club must now await the official findings of the investigation, which could lead to further penalties against Inter Miami if wrongdoing is confirmed.
