About the CAF Confederation Cup
History
The CAF Confederation Cup was created in 2004, following the merger of the African Cup Winners' Cup (created in 1975) and the CAF Cup (introduced in 1992), forming a second continental club competition below the CAF Champions League. Renaissance Berkane and CS Sfaxien are the competition's most decorated clubs, with 3 titles each. Morocco is the country with the most titles (8), ahead of Tunisia (5). In the 2025-26 edition, USM Alger claimed their second title following a dramatic penalty shootout win (8-7) over Zamalek, after the two-legged final ended level at 1-1 on aggregate.
Trophy roll
- Renaissance Berkane — 3 titles in total, joint-record holder of the competition.
- USM Alger — Winners of the 2025-26 edition, their second title in the competition.
- Zamalek SC — Runners-up in the 2025-26 edition, beaten by USM Alger on penalties.
Competition format
The CAF Confederation Cup features 16 clubs split into four groups of four teams, with each club facing the other three in its group home and away.
At the end of the group stage, the top two teams from each group qualify for the quarter-finals, played over two legs, as are the semi-finals and the final, the latter being played over two matches rather than a single game.
Qualification for the CAF Super Cup
The CAF Confederation Cup winner qualifies for the following season's CAF Super Cup, against the CAF Champions League winner.
