Algeria exit World Cup 2026 as Switzerland cruise to 2-0 Last 32 victory

At BC Place in Vancouver, Switzerland delivered a composed and clinical performance to eliminate Algeria 2-0 in the Last 32 of the 2026 World Cup. Goals from Breel Embolo and Dan Ndoye saw the Swiss safely through to the Round of 16.

Embolo strikes early

Switzerland needed just ten minutes to take control of the game. Breel Embolo, supplied by Manzambi, finished crisply to open the scoring and put the Fennecs under immediate pressure. Algeria struggled to respond against a well-drilled Swiss defensive structure.

Ndoye doubles up after the break

If Algeria harboured any hopes of a second-half comeback, Dan Ndoye extinguished them immediately. The winger struck in the 46th minute, right after the restart, to make it 2-0 and effectively seal the tie before it had truly begun again.

Algeria couldn't find a way through

Despite the introduction of Riyad Mahrez in the 71st minute, Algeria could not unlock the Swiss defence. Two yellow cards — for Chaibi (36') and Boudaoui (72') — further summed up a frustrating evening for the North Africans, who exit the tournament without really testing goalkeeper Kobel.
