Mbappé becomes the all-time World Cup top scorer, ahead of Messi
The Frenchman moves to 22 World Cup goals, one more than Messi's 21.
Kylian Mbappé became the sole all-time top scorer in World Cup history after scoring twice against England in the third-place play-off on 18 July 2026, taking his tally to 22 goals across three editions (2018, 2022, 2026) and moving past Argentina's Lionel Messi (21).
The France international also finished as the tournament's top scorer with 10 goals, ahead of Messi (8) and Norway's Erling Haaland (7) — his second Golden Boot after 2022.
