History

Tunisian football is governed by the Tunisian Football Federation, founded on 29 March 1957. The league turned professional starting with the 1994-95 season, under the name "Ligue Professionnelle 1." The league has been dominated by Espérance Sportive de Tunis, champions 34 times, most recently in the 2024-25 season, far ahead of their historic rivals Club Africain, Étoile du Sahel, and CS Sfaxien — together forming what is commonly known as Tunisian football's "big four."
