Could Morocco Lose the Title? CAS to Open 2025 AFCON Final Case on October 8

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has set October 8 as the date for a hearing on the dispute surrounding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, pitting the Senegalese Football Federation against the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. The case stems from the controversial circumstances surrounding the tournament's final, after CAF's Appeals Board ruled that Senegal had forfeited the match, resulting in a 3-0 administrative victory for Morocco. The ruling followed several Senegal players walking off the pitch in protest of a refereeing decision, in breach of Articles 82 and 84 of the tournament's regulations. Morocco were subsequently crowned African champions as a result of that decision. The hearing will take place behind closed doors at CAS headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland. No verdict will be issued on the day itself — the arbitration panel will retire for confidential deliberations, with no set timeline given for the final written decision.
