The 2026 World Cup is over, and FIFA has unveiled its individual awards following the final won by Spain against Argentina. The verdict is clear: Spain swept three of the four major awards, with only the Golden Boot going elsewhere.
Golden Ball: Rodri edges out Messi
Rodri was named the tournament's best player, beating pre-final favourite Lionel Messi to the prize. The Spanish midfielder becomes the first Spaniard to win the award, and the first midfielder to claim it since Luka Modrić in 2018, recognised for controlling the tempo of an unbeaten Spanish campaign from the opening group match through to the final.
Golden Boot: Mbappé finishes top, Messi just behind
With 10 goals scored across the tournament, Kylian Mbappé ends the competition atop the scoring charts, ahead of Messi (8 goals), who couldn't find the net in the final. The podium is completed by Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham, both on 7 goals.

The final award on Spain's board: Pau Cubarsí was named Best Young Player of the tournament at just 19, rounding out a clean sweep of individual honours for Spain, save for the Golden Boot.
