Mexican Legend Guillermo Ochoa Announces Retirement After 22-Year Career

Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 41, closing out a 22-year career during which he featured at six consecutive World Cups, a tally shared only with two other stars, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Ochoa began his career with Mexico's Club América in February 2004, spending seven seasons there before moving to France to join Ajaccio in 2011, becoming the first Mexico-born goalkeeper to play in Europe. His European career went on to include spells at Málaga, Granada, Standard Liège, Salernitana, Portugal's AVS, and Cyprus's AEL, before a three-season return to América between 2019 and 2022. On the international stage, Ochoa led Mexico to six CONCACAF Gold Cup titles, as well as a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, cementing his status as one of the greatest goalkeepers in Mexican football history.
