Morocco's official squad revealed for Gabon and Lesotho

Coach Mohamed Ouahbi unveiled, at a press conference at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat, the official 29-man Morocco squad ahead of the matches against Gabon and Lesotho, covering matchdays 1 and 2 of the AFCON 2027 qualifiers.

The Atlas Lions open their qualifying campaign against Gabon on September 25 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, before travelling to face Lesotho on September 29 in Bloemfontein, South Africa.

First call-ups for Belarouch, Zabiri and Ben Tayeb

The squad includes the first-ever call-ups for goalkeeper Alaa Belarouch, forward Yassir Zabiri - currently in fine form with Racing Santander - and Toufik Ben Tayeb, a sign of Ouahbi's intent to refresh the group after the 2026 World Cup.

Ounahi, Zabiri and Rahimi all keep their place in the squad, alongside the Hakimi-Mazraoui back-line pairing (Hakimi, Mazraoui) and first-choice goalkeeper Bounou.

At the same press conference, Ouahbi also addressed the absence of Botola Pro players from this squad, as well as the Ezzalzouli shirt incident, with the winger keeping his place despite the controversy.
