Norway knocked out Brazil 2-1 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday, in a gripping Round of 16 clash at the 2026 World Cup, sending the Vikings through to the quarter-finals at the expense of one of the tournament favourites.
A cagey first half
The first half was largely uneventful and finished goalless, with both sides wary of conceding an early blow. Norway's coach made a double change right at the start of the second half, bringing on Oscar Bobb for Alexander Sørloth and Andreas Schjelderup for Antonio Nusa in search of more attacking threat.
Haaland settles it in 11 minutes
Brazil responded by throwing on Endrick, Neymar, and Danilo Santos, but it was Erling Haaland who had the final say. The Norwegian striker opened the scoring in the 79th minute before doubling his tally in the 90th, putting Norway firmly in control.
Neymar did pull one back from the penalty spot in stoppage time — picking up a yellow card in the same passage of play — but there was no time left for Brazil to find an equaliser.
What it means
The win extends Norway's impressive run at this World Cup and sends them into the quarter-finals, while Brazil's campaign ends in the Round of 16 in one of the biggest upsets of the tournament so far.
