2026 Women's AFCON: Morocco open with a comfortable 4-0 win over Kenya
The Atlas Lionesses dominated Kenya in their opening match of the 2026 Women's AFCON, being held on home soil until 16 August.
The 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations kicked off on 26 July in Morocco, the tournament's host country. In their opening Group A fixture, the Atlas Lionesses secured a comfortable 4-0 win over Kenya.
Moroccan defender Hanane Aït El Haj was named player of the match. Also in Group A, Algeria picked up a win of their own, beating Senegal 2-0 on the same day.
The competition runs until 16 August, with a total of 34 matches split between the cities of Rabat and Casablanca. Host nation Morocco will next face Algeria and Senegal in the coming group-stage matchdays.
Nigeria, the defending champions from the previous edition, are also among the sixteen nations that qualified for this final tournament.
