Major League Soccer served up goal-filled fixtures this week, headlined by a historic Lionel Messi four-goal game and Nashville's best start to a season in league history.

Headline results

Messi powered Inter Miami to a resounding 7-1 win over Montreal, scoring his very first four-goal game in MLS with two direct free-kicks (40' and 90+6') and two further goals (52' and 83'), taking his season tally to 18 and moving top of the league's scoring charts.

Carlos Casimiro, Luis Suárez and 18-year-old rookie Alexander Shaw rounded out the scoring for Miami.

Fabian Herbers scored Montreal's lone goal.

In Nashville, Nashville SC posted a comfortable 4-0 win over Cincinnati through goals from Sam Surridge, Hany Mukhtar, Bryan Acosta and Ahmed Qasem, taking their tally to 52 points through 22 matches — the best start in MLS history at this stage of a season.

San Diego FC continued their mastery over LA Galaxy with a 3-1 win, courtesy of goals from Elias Achouri (11'), Kieran Sargeant (48') and Amahl Pellegrino (70'), while Hirving Lozano pulled one back for Galaxy (55').
