History of San Diego FC
Founding and Early Years
San Diego FC became MLS's 30th franchise on 18 May 2023 and began league play in 2025. The club play at Snapdragon Stadium, opened in 2022 and shared with the San Diego State Aztecs and Wave FC.
Club Evolution
The club stands out for its academy-first model, built around the Right to Dream network. Their colours, "Chrome" and "Azul," symbolise San Diego's spirit of innovation and its Pacific coastal identity respectively; their crest, nicknamed "The Flow," represents San Diego County's eighteen communities.
Great Managers
Mikey Varas, the only head coach in club history, set MLS expansion records from the very first 2025 season: 1st place in the Western Conference regular season and the first expansion team to win a best-of-three playoff round, before reaching the Western Conference final.
