History of LA Galaxy
Founding and Early Years
LA Galaxy was founded on 15 June 1994, as a founding member of MLS, and played its first league season in 1996. The club first played at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena before moving in 2003 to what is now Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson.
Club Evolution
The name "Galaxy" evokes Los Angeles's Hollywood association with stars. The club wear navy, gold, and white, and their crest features the quasar symbol drawn from the 1957 Los Angeles County seal.
Great Managers
Sigi Schmid (2000-2004) won the club's first MLS Cup in 2002. Bruce Arena (2008-2016) presided over the Galaxy's most successful era, with three MLS Cups (2011, 2012, 2014) and two Supporters' Shields (2010, 2011). Greg Vanney (since 2021) added a record sixth MLS Cup in 2024.
Iconic Players
David Beckham (2007-2012) helped globalise MLS. Landon Donovan, the club's all-time top scorer, embodies the Galaxy's golden age across two spells between 2005 and 2016. Robbie Keane (2011-2016) actively contributed to the titles of that era.
Major Achievements
LA Galaxy are MLS's most decorated club, with a record six MLS Cups (2002, 2005, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2024), four Supporters' Shields, two US Open Cups, and one CONCACAF Champions' Cup (2000).
The Club Today
Led by Greg Vanney and chaired by Dan Beckerman, under the ownership of Philip Anschutz, LA Galaxy remain the historic benchmark of North American football despite a mid-table 2025-26 season.
