After World Cup Glory.. Spain Rewards De la Fuente with a Historic Contract

Rafael Louzán, president of the Spanish Football Federation, revealed the reasons behind the federation's decision to extend head coach Luis de la Fuente's contract with the Spain national team through 2032, expressing the federation's ambition to keep winning major titles going forward.

The best coach in history

Louzán justified the renewal by pointing to de la Fuente's exceptional achievements since taking charge, stating: "We have the best coach in our history, and the results prove it," referring to the historic treble achieved with "La Roja": two UEFA Nations League titles, Euro 2024, and most recently the 2026 World Cup following a 1-0 win over Argentina in the final.

A contract running through 2032

The new deal covers Spain's participation in Euro 2028, the 2030 World Cup co-hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco, and extends all the way to Euro 2032 — making it the longest contract ever signed by a coach with the Spanish federation.

Ambition without limits

The federation president stressed that the goal isn't limited to preserving current achievements, but also to keep chasing another World Cup title, especially with Spain co-hosting the 2030 edition on home soil, powered by a generation of players Louzán described as having brought the national team back to the forefront of world football in just a few short years.
