Late Penalty Goal Hands Mourinho His First Win of His Second Spell
Real Madrid beat Alcorcón 1-0 in Mourinho's first match since his return to the Bernabéu after 13 years.
Portuguese coach José Mourinho has begun his second spell in charge of Real Madrid, 13 years after his first departure from the club, with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Alcorcón in a preseason friendly.
The first half ended goalless, in a match marked by a scarcity of clear chances for either side. Turkish star Arda Güler missed a penalty, saved by Alcorcón's goalkeeper, before Daniel Yáñez settled the contest in Real Madrid's favor with a second penalty in the 81st minute.
Mourinho's return to the Bernabéu follows the signing of a three-year contract, with his role officially beginning on 13 July as preparations got underway for the 2026-27 season. Real Madrid will play their first official La Liga match against Real Sociedad on 15 or 16 August.
