Revived in 1991 as the "PTT Telecom Cup," the competition became the "Super Cup" in 1994, before taking its current name, the "Johan Cruijff Schaal," in 1996. Since 2017, the match has been played at the reigning league champion's stadium. PSV Eindhoven are the most decorated club since the 1991 revival, with 15 titles, ahead of Ajax (9 titles) and Feyenoord (4 titles). In the 2025 edition, PSV claimed their 15th title by coming back from 0-1 down to beat Go Ahead Eagles 2-1 on 3 August 2025 at the Philips Stadion in Eindhoven, through an own goal and a goal from Sergiño Dest.
