About the Supercopa de España

History

The Supercopa de España began in 1982, the successor to earlier attempts in the 1940s and 1950s (the Copa de los Campeones de España, then the Copa Eva Duarte) that already pitted the La Liga champion against the Copa del Rey winner. Played over two legs until 2018, it switched to a single match that year, before adopting its current four-team format from 2019 onward (La Liga champion and runner-up, Copa del Rey winner and runner-up), with semi-finals and a final now held every year in Saudi Arabia. FC Barcelona are the competition's most decorated club with a record 16 titles, ahead of Real Madrid (13 titles). The Catalan club won the last two editions against their Madrid rivals: 5-2 in January 2025, then 3-2 in January 2026, the latter played in Jeddah with a brace from Raphinha.
