- CAF: 4 direct slots (2 allocated, 2 still to be decided this Sunday at WAFCON 2026) + 2 play-off slots
- CONCACAF: 4 direct slots + 2 play-off slots, decided at the continental championship in November 2026
- CONMEBOL: 3 direct slots including the host (2 already allocated, to Argentina and Colombia) + teams in the play-off pool
- OFC: 1 direct slot (allocated) + 1 play-off slot
- UEFA: 11 direct slots (4 allocated, 7 still to be decided via play-offs from October to December 2026) + 1 play-off slot
- The tournament's final 3 spots will be decided by a 10-team inter-confederation play-off tournament in November-December 2026.
What's still to be decided
The last two 2026 WAFCON quarter-finals (Cameroon vs Nigeria and Malawi vs Ghana) are being played this Sunday, August 9 — their winners will join Algeria and Morocco as Africa's qualifiers. In Europe, UEFA's play-offs run from October to December 2026 to fill the continent's last 7 direct slots. CONCACAF will confirm its qualifiers at its November 2026 championship. The full 32-team field won't be known until December 2026.
