About the FA Cup
History
The FA Cup is the oldest national football competition in the world. Proposed on 20 July 1871 by FA secretary C. W. Alcock, it was first played during the 1871-72 season. The very first final, played on 16 March 1872, was won by the Wanderers. Arsenal are today the competition's most decorated club with 14 titles. In the 2025-26 edition, Manchester City won the trophy by beating Chelsea 1-0 in the final at Wembley, through a goal from Antoine Semenyo, completing the domestic cup double after their League Cup triumph.
