History of Everton

Founding and Early Years

Everton Football Club was founded in 1878, making it one of the founding members of the Football League in 1888 and one of England's oldest professional clubs.

Club Evolution

After 133 years at Goodison Park, the club moved in 2025 to the new Hill Dickinson Stadium, built on the banks of the Mersey, with a capacity of around 52,769.

Great Managers

Howard Kendall led the club through its golden era in the 1980s, winning two English league titles and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1985. David Moyes, back at the club, currently manages the team.

Iconic Players

The club has been carried by figures such as Dixie Dean, whose record of 60 league goals in a single season (1927-28) remains unmatched in English football, and more recently by generations of academy-developed players.

Major Achievements

Everton have won nine English league titles, most recently in 1987, five FA Cups and a UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1985, but have not lifted a major trophy since 1995.

The Club Today

Presided over by Dan Friedkin and managed by David Moyes, Everton are entering a new era in their new stadium on the banks of the Mersey, driven by their historic rivalry with Liverpool in the Merseyside derby.
