Neither Switzerland nor Colombia could find the breakthrough over 120 minutes in this World Cup 2026 round of 16 clash, with the penalty shootout ultimately favoring the Swiss (4-3).

The first half was cautious and short on chances, the best of them a curled effort from Puertas saved by Swiss goalkeeper Kobel in the 20th minute.

Switzerland improved after the break following a change from coach Murat Yakin, but the biggest moment of the match came from the Colombian side: Luis Suárez squandered a one-on-one chance with the goalkeeper in the 63rd minute.

In extra time, a Lucumí header struck the crossbar in the 99th minute, while Granit Xhaka made a few defensive errors without Colombia capitalizing.

In the shootout, Switzerland kept their cool to win 4-3 and reach the quarter-final, where they will face Argentina on July 12, while Colombia's World Cup run comes to an end.
