History of Orlando City
Founding and Early Years
The club was founded in 2010 by Phil Rawlins and Adrian Heath, following the relocation of the Austin Aztex franchise to Orlando. It won two USL Pro titles before being awarded an MLS franchise in November 2014 and beginning league play in 2015.
Club Evolution
Nicknamed "The Lions," in tribute to the Orlando Lions of the 1980s-90s, the club wear purple and gold. They play at a stadium opened in 2017, renamed Inter&Co Stadium in January 2024 after previously being called Exploria Stadium.
Great Managers
Adrian Heath (2011-2013) defined the club's pre-MLS era with two USL Pro regular-season titles. Óscar Pareja (2019-2026), the club's most successful manager, won the sole MLS-era trophy, the 2022 US Open Cup, and led the team to the 2020 "MLS is Back" tournament final.
Iconic Players
Kaká, the former Ballon d'Or winner, embodies the club's inaugural 2015 season. Cyle Larin set an MLS rookie scoring record with 17 goals in 2015, while Nani, the Portuguese international, established himself as one of the club's biggest signings.
Major Achievements
Orlando City SC have won one US Open Cup in 2022, the club's only MLS-era trophy, in addition to two regular-season titles and two postseason titles in USL Pro before joining the top flight.
