History of Charlotte FC
Founding and Early Years
Charlotte FC was awarded its expansion franchise on 17 December 2019, for a record $325 million fee paid by owner David Tepper, and began MLS play in 2022. The club's name, crest, and colours were directly shaped by consultation with local fans.
Club Evolution
Nicknamed "The Crown," referencing Charlotte's nickname "Queen City," the club wear blue and white and play at Bank of America Stadium, shared with the NFL's Panthers.

Christian Lattanzio defined the club's first year in 2022 by beating defending champions NYCFC. Dean Smith (since 2023) has led Charlotte FC to three consecutive playoff appearances, including their best-ever season in 2025.
