History of Toronto FC
Founding and Early Years
Toronto FC was founded on 27 October 2005 and began MLS play in 2007, becoming the league's very first Canadian club. They have played since their 2007 opening at BMO Field, Canada's first soccer-specific stadium.
Club Evolution
Nicknamed "The Reds" or "TFC," the club wear red, white, and onyx black. Toronto FC belongs to Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, of which Rogers Communications became the sole owner in 2026.
Great Managers
Greg Vanney (2014-2019) achieved MLS's very first treble in 2017: MLS Cup, Supporters' Shield, and the Canadian Championship in the same season, an achievement never matched since.
Iconic Players
Sebastian Giovinco, nicknamed "The Atomic Ant," was the attacking star of the 2017 treble. Michael Bradley, captain and US international, and Jozy Altidore, scorer of the decisive goal in the 2017 MLS Cup final, complete the iconic trio of that golden generation.
