Houston Dynamo

Founding and Early Years

Houston Dynamo was born on 15 December 2005, when MLS relocated the organisation and roster of the original San Jose Earthquakes franchise to Houston, for lack of a suitable stadium in California. The club took the name Houston Dynamo in March 2006 and began league play the same year.

Club Evolution

Nicknamed "Orange Crush," the club wear black and orange, a colour chosen to be instantly recognisable. They have played since 2012 at a purpose-built stadium in downtown Houston, today named Shell Energy Stadium.

Great Managers

Dominic Kinnear (2006-2014), the founding and most significant coach in club history, won two consecutive MLS Cups in the Dynamo's first two seasons, 2006 and 2007. Wilmer Cabrera (2018) and Ben Olsen (2023) each added a US Open Cup.

Iconic Players

Brian Ching, the club's all-time top scorer, is the face of the back-to-back title era. Dwayne De Rosario became the first player in MLS history to be named MLS Cup MVP twice, while Ricardo Clark, a two-time champion, played at the 2010 World Cup with the United States.

Major Achievements

Houston Dynamo have won two consecutive MLS Cups (2006, 2007) and two US Open Cups (2018, 2023), without winning a Supporters' Shield or a continental trophy.

The Club Today

Led by Ben Olsen since 2023 and chaired by Ted Segal since 2021, Houston Dynamo hold a mid-table position in 2026, as the city prepares to host World Cup matches.
