History of FC Dallas
Founding and Early Years
The club was awarded its franchise on 6 June 1995, one of MLS's ten founding members, and began league play in 1996 as the Dallas Burn, referencing Texas oilfields. It took its current name, FC Dallas, in 2004.
Club Evolution
Nicknamed "Los Toros" (The Bulls), the club wear red, blue, white, and silver, colours evoking the Lone Star State. They have played since 2005 at a stadium in Frisco, renamed Toyota Stadium in 2013, and built one of American soccer's most influential development academies.
Great Managers
Schellas Hyndman (2008-2013) led the club to its first MLS Cup final in 2010. Oscar Pareja (2014-2018), the winningest coach of the club's modern era, delivered the US Open Cup-Supporters' Shield double in 2016, ending a 19-year trophy drought.
Iconic Players
Jason Kreis, the club's first icon in the Dallas Burn era, still holds the club's records for goals and assists. David Ferreira, named MLS MVP in 2010, and Mauro Díaz, the creative engine of the 2016 double, are among the club's other great names.
Major Achievements
FC Dallas have won two US Open Cups (1997, 2016) and one Supporters' Shield (2016), without ever winning MLS Cup despite two lost finals, in 1997 and 2010.
The Club Today
Led by Eric Quill since 2024 and chaired by Dan Hunt, of the family that owns the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs, FC Dallas continue the $200 million renovation of Toyota Stadium, notably ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
