Founding and Early Years

Getafe Club de Fútbol was founded on 8 July 1983 in the town of Getafe, south of Madrid, making it one of the youngest clubs in the Spanish top flight. The club took time to establish itself there, only reaching the first division in 2004.

Club Evolution

The club plays its home matches at the Estadio Coliseum, opened in 1998 as Coliseum Alfonso Pérez before reverting to its current name in 2023, with a capacity of around 16,500.

José Bordalás has lastingly defined the club's identity across several spells since the 2010s, establishing a pragmatic, physical playing style that has become Getafe CF's trademark in Spanish football.

The club has stood out for its ability to develop undervalued players and for a collective defensive solidity rather than isolated individual talent — a model that has driven several European qualifications.

Major Achievements

Without a major trophy to its name, Getafe CF nonetheless reached the 2008 UEFA Cup final and the Europa League quarter-finals in 2016 and 2020, its best European results.

Presided over by Ángel Torres since 2004, the architect of the club's stability in La Liga, Getafe CF remains managed by José Bordalás, the guarantor of a recognisable playing identity in Spain.
