Founding and Early Years

Real Club Celta de Vigo was founded on 23 August 1923 in the port city of Vigo, in Galicia, born from the merger of two local clubs, Vigo Sporting and Real Fortuna. Its name honours the Celtic peoples who historically inhabited the region.

Club Evolution

The club plays its home matches at the Abanca-Balaídos stadium, with a capacity of around 24,900, by the Atlantic Ocean, one of La Liga's most distinctive settings.

Great Managers

Claudio Giráldez took charge of the first team in 2024, continuing the attacking, development-focused philosophy that has characterised the club for decades.

Iconic Players

Iago Aspas, a product of the club's academy who returned to settle there long-term after spells at Liverpool and Sevilla, became its all-time top scorer with over 200 goals across all competitions, and its iconic captain.

Major Achievements

Without a national title to its name, Celta Vigo nonetheless experienced its historic peak in the 2002-03 season, finishing fourth in La Liga and qualifying for the Champions League.

The Club Today

Presided over by Marián Mouriño, the first woman to preside over a Spanish top-flight club, Celta Vigo remains driven by its iconic captain Iago Aspas and a recognisable attacking identity in La Liga.
