Founding and Early Years
The club was born in 1907 as Sevilla Balompié, before merging in 1914 with Betis Football Club, a breakaway from Sevilla FC, to form Real Betis Balompié. The royal title "Real" was granted in 1914 by King Alfonso XIII.

The club plays its home matches at the Estadio Benito Villamarín, opened in 1929 and renamed in 1961 in honour of a former president, today with a capacity of around 60,700 — one of the largest stadiums in Andalusia.
