History of Al-Ittihad
Founding and Early Years
Al-Ittihad was founded on 26 December 1927 in Jeddah, one of the oldest clubs in Saudi Arabia, at the initiative of a group of enthusiasts who met at a local radio station's offices, aiming to unite the city around organized sport.
Club Evolution
Nicknamed "Al-Amid" (The Dean) in reference to its long history, the club plays at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, opened in 2014 and shared with neighbors Al-Ahli. The 2026-27 season marks the club's centenary.
Great Managers
Dragan Talajić led the club's historic run to the 2004 AFC Champions League title. Nuno Espírito Santo won the domestic title in his very first season, 2022-23, before Laurent Blanc and then Sérgio Conceição, who arrived in October 2025, succeeded him on the bench.
Iconic Players
Mohammed Noor, nicknamed the "Asian Vieira," was the central figure of the club's back-to-back continental titles in 2004 and 2005, alongside prolific striker Hamzah Idris. More recently, N'Golo Kanté (since 2023) and Karim Benzema (2023-February 2026, before his move to Al-Hilal) have worn the club's colors.
Major Achievements
Al-Ittihad have won 14 Saudi league titles, and above all two consecutive AFC Champions League titles, in 2004 and 2005, a feat that remained unique in Asia for a long time.
The Club Today
Coached by Sérgio Conceição and chaired by Fahd bin Hamza Sindi, Al-Ittihad endured a difficult 2025-26 season, finishing 5th after being champions the previous year, a season marked by Karim Benzema's departure to rivals Al-Hilal.
