History of Parma
Founding and Early Years
The club was founded on 27 July 1913 as Verdi Foot Ball Club, honouring the centenary of composer Giuseppe Verdi's birth. Its history includes two major refoundations, following sponsor Parmalat's collapse in 2004 and a further liquidation in 2015, which gave rise to the current entity, Parma Calcio 1913, restarting from Serie D.
Club Evolution
Parma play at the Stadio Ennio Tardini, their home since 1923, named after the club president who initiated its construction. Nicknamed "I Crociati" (The Crusaders) for their emblematic white cross, or "I Gialloblù" and "I Ducali" referencing the historic Duchy of Parma, the club is closely associated with the yellow-and-blue striped shirt of their 1990s-2000s golden era.
Great Managers
Nevio Scala (1989-1996) took Parma from Serie B to Europe, winning the Cup Winners' Cup and UEFA Super Cup in 1993, then the UEFA Cup in 1995. Carlo Ancelotti (1996-1998) delivered the club's best-ever league finish, 2nd place in 1996-97. Alberto Malesani (1998-2000) then achieved a rare cup double, the Coppa Italia and UEFA Cup, in 1999.
Iconic Players
Gianluigi Buffon emerged as Parma's goalkeeper in the mid-1990s, before his legendary Juventus career. Hernán Crespo, the club's all-time top scorer, was transferred to Lazio in 2000 for what was then a world-record fee. Fabio Cannavaro also developed at Parma before becoming a 2006 World Cup winner with Italy.

Parma have never won the Scudetto (best finish: runner-up in 1996-97), but have lifted three Coppa Italia titles (1992, 1999, 2002), two UEFA Cups (1995, 1999), one Cup Winners' Cup (1993), and one UEFA Super Cup (1993).

Led by Carlos Cuesta and chaired by Kyle J. Krause since 2020, Parma returned to Serie A in 2023-24 as Serie B champions, finishing 13th in their first season back in 2025-26.
