AS Roma

Founding and Early Years

AS Roma was founded on 22 July 1927 from the merger of three Roman clubs (Roman FC, Alba-Audace, and Fortitudo-Pro Roma), at the initiative of fascist official Italo Foschi, who wanted the capital to have a single club capable of rivalling the powers of northern Italy. The club immediately adopted the maroon and gold colours historically associated with the city of Rome.

Club Evolution

Initially based at the Stadio Nazionale PNF, Roma moved in 1953 to the Stadio Olimpico, which they share with Lazio and where they still play today. The club won its first Scudetto as early as 1941-42, before enduring long droughts and returning to the summit in the 1980s and 2000s.

Great Managers

Nils Liedholm led Roma to the 1982-83 Scudetto and a European Cup final in 1984, lost on penalties at home to Liverpool. Fabio Capello brought the title back in 2000-01 with a side built around Totti and Batistuta. More recently, José Mourinho delivered the club's first-ever European trophy, the 2021-22 Europa Conference League, before Gian Piero Gasperini took charge.

Iconic Players

Francesco Totti, "il Capitano," spent his entire career (1992-2017) at Roma, becoming the club's ultimate symbol and its all-time top scorer. Daniele De Rossi, a product of the club's academy, formed an iconic duo of loyalty and talent alongside Totti. Gabriel Batistuta and Bruno Conti are among the other great names in giallorossi history.

Major Achievements

Roma have won three Scudetti (1941-42, 1982-83, 2000-01), nine Coppa Italia titles, and two Supercoppa Italiana, along with the 2021-22 Europa Conference League, the first European trophy in the club's history.

The Club Today

Led by Gian Piero Gasperini and chaired by Dan Friedkin since 2020, AS Roma continue to chase a return to the European elite and a first Scudetto in over two decades.
