Founding and Early Years

The club originates from Fußball-Club Allemannia Augsburg, founded on 8 August 1907. Facing financial difficulties, BC Augsburg merged in July 1969 with the football section of TSV Schwaben Augsburg to form today's FC Augsburg.

Club Evolution

Nicknamed "Die Fuggerstädter," after the Fugger banking family historically associated with the city of Augsburg, the club play at the WWK Arena, opened in 2009. Long a lower-division club with no top-flight history, Augsburg were promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time in their history in 2011.

Great Managers

Markus Weinzierl (2012-2016) stabilised the club in the Bundesliga in the years following promotion and led them to their first European campaign, in the 2015-16 Europa League. Current coach Manuel Baum has emerged as a defining figure after steering the club out of a relegation fight in 2025-26.

FC Augsburg have no history of legendary individual stars given their recent arrival in the top flight; their identity rests more on collective stability than on individual names.

Major Achievements

FC Augsburg have never won a major trophy. Their history is defined above all by their remarkable stability in the Bundesliga since their 2011 promotion, a rare achievement in a league known for high volatility.

Led by Manuel Baum and chaired by Markus Krapf since 2022, FC Augsburg finished 9th in the Bundesliga in 2025-26, confirming their status as a stable, well-run club in German football.
