US Cremonese

Founding and Early Years

US Cremonese was founded on 24 March 1903 at the Osteria Varesina in Cremona. The club adopted grey and red as its colours on 20 September 1914, for a friendly match against Vicenza, earning its players the nickname "Grigiorossi."

Club Evolution

The club play at the Stadio Giovanni Zini, opened in 1919 and renamed in 1925 in tribute to Giovanni Zini, the club's first-ever goalkeeper, who died in the First World War. Cremonese have the rare distinction in Italian football of owning both their stadium and their training centre.

Great Managers

Emiliano Mondonico led Cremonese to their first-ever Serie A promotion in 1984, after a 54-year wait. Fabio Pecchia brought the club back to Serie A in 2021-22 after 26 years away, while Giovanni Stroppa engineered the 2025 return via the playoffs, beating Spezia.

Iconic Players

Gianluca Vialli made his professional debut for Cremonese on 10 May 1981, before becoming a legend at Sampdoria, Juventus, and with Italy. Antonio Cabrini also developed at the club in the 1970s, before winning the 1982 World Cup with Italy.

Major Achievements

Cremonese have never won Serie A, Serie B, or the Coppa Italia, but lifted the Anglo-Italian Cup in 1992-93 against Derby County, their biggest trophy. The club has been promoted to Serie A several times throughout its history, most recently in 2022 and 2025.

The Club Today

Led by Marco Giampaolo and chaired by Francesco Dini, under the ownership of Giovanni Arvedi since 2007, Cremonese play in Serie B for the 2026-27 season after a further relegation, true to their identity as one of Italian football's classic "yo-yo" clubs.
