Founding and Early Years
FC Volendam was founded on 1 June 1920 as "Victoria" by fishermen from the village of Volendam, renamed "RKSV Volendam" in 1923, before its professional section split off in 1977 under the current name.
Club Evolution
Nicknamed "De Palingboeren" (The Eel Farmers), referencing the village's local fishing tradition, or "the back-and-forth club" for its countless promotions and relegations, the club plays at Kras Stadion, their home since 1975.
Great Managers
Wim Jonk (2019-2023), a former Dutch international who played for Ajax and Inter Milan, built the club's project before a governance crisis led to the entire technical staff resigning together in late 2023.
Iconic Players
Arnold Mรผhren, a Dutch football legend who played for Ajax, Ipswich Town and Manchester United, began his career at Volendam, as did Wim Jonk before his major career at Ajax, Inter and PSV. Dick Tol remains the club's all-time top scorer.
Major Achievements
FC Volendam hold the Dutch record with seven second-division titles (1958-59, 1960-61, 1966-67, 1969-70, 1986-87, 2007-08, 2024-25) and eleven promotions to the Eredivisie, without ever winning the KNVB Cup (two lost finals, in 1957-58 against Sparta Rotterdam and 1994-95 against Feyenoord).
