Founding and Early Years
Le Havre AC is traditionally presented as the oldest club in French football, founded in 1872, though this date is contested by historians: the multi-sport club is more likely to date from 1884, its football section from 1894, with the 1872 date probably originating from an error in a 50th-anniversary book published in 1952.
Club Evolution
