Founding and Early Years
Stade Rennais was founded on 10 March 1901 by former Rennes students, before merging in 1904 with rivals FC Rennais to form Stade Rennais Université Club, the source of its red, black, and white colours.
Club Evolution
Long a "yo-yo club" of French football, Stade Rennais stabilised and grew significantly under the Pinault family's ownership since 1998, with major investment in youth development. The club play at Roazhon Park, their stadium since 1912, extensively renovated in 1999.
Great Managers
Jean Prouff (1964-1972) led the club through its classic golden age, including the 1965 Coupe de France. Julien Stéphan (2018-2021) achieved the historic 2019 Coupe de France triumph, won against PSG on penalties after trailing 2-0.
Iconic Players
Stade Rennais' academy has produced numerous France internationals who became global stars, including Ousmane Dembélé, Eduardo Camavinga, Yoann Gourcuff, and Raphinha, symbols of the success of its youth setup.
Major Achievements
Stade Rennais have never won Ligue 1, but have lifted three Coupe de France titles (1964-65, 1970-71, 2018-19), the latter one of the greatest achievements in the club's history.
