History of Toulouse
Founding and Early Years
Today's Toulouse FC was founded in 1970 as Union Sportive de Toulouse, before taking its current name in 1979. The club is a distinct entity from the earlier Toulouse FC (1937-1967), which had won the 1957 Coupe de France before ceasing to exist.
Club Evolution
Nicknamed "Le Téfécé" or "Les Violets," referencing Toulouse's historic nickname "City of Violets," the club play at the Stadium de Toulouse, a municipally-owned ground used since the club's founding.
Great Managers
Jacques Santini (1984-1989) led the club through fine European campaigns, including a resounding UEFA Cup win against Diego Maradona's Napoli in 1986. Philippe Montanier (2022-2023) more recently guided the club to victory in the 2023 Coupe de France, bringing Europa League qualification.
