Founding and Early Years
The club's roots trace to Cercle Athlétique Messin, founded on 20 February 1919, but it was in 1932, upon turning professional, that the club took the name Football Club de Metz.
Club Evolution
Nicknamed "Les Grenats" (The Garnets), after their traditional colour, the club play at the Stade Saint-Symphorien, built in 1923. FC Metz are renowned as one of French football's most emblematic "yo-yo" clubs, frequently alternating between Ligue 1 and Ligue 2.
Great Managers
Henryk Kasperczak won the 1984 Coupe de France. Marcel Husson (1984-1989) remains associated with the "Miracle of Barcelona," a 4-1 win at the Camp Nou in the 1984 Cup Winners' Cup, as well as the 1986 Coupe de la Ligue and the 1988 Coupe de France.
